A thank you letter to my mother
I’ve always wanted to write you a thank you letter, so here it goes – grab some tissues for this one.
I want to start by thanking you for bringing me into this world, I mean it when I say I wouldn’t be here without you. From day one we have truly been best friends – from teaching me to braid my hair, to my first period, to my first struggle. Thank you for guiding me but letting me make my own decisions (not that you had much of a choice with my attitude). It is quite common for a mother to say they are proud of their child, it’s not as common for a child to say their proud of their mother – but for me, I could not be prouder to be your daughter.
I watch you continuously grow, you get stronger and more beautiful as the years pass by. I’ve learned a lot from you in 22 years, you’ve shown me the kind of daughter, mother, wife, & friend I want to be in life – I’m not sure I will ever be able to thank you enough for these things. Thank you for always putting your children first, despite any struggles in our life we never have gone without new & clean clothes, fresh food, and a home. Thank you for always supporting me in my journey of life, it hasn’t always been an easy path but with you beside me I’ve come out on top with my light shining so bright.
If I’m having an off day or a good day you always know within seconds of talking, thank you for always keeping in touch with me day to day and helping me stay focused on what is important in life. Thank you for always being honest with me, whether it was telling me I was about to make a mistake or telling me secrets you maybe shouldn’t have – one thing I never felt with you is in the dark, I love having such an open relationship with you. Thank you for showing me life is better when you spend the nights dancing like no one is watching, and even if they are watching who gives a sh*t! Thank you for not making me feel weak or different when my mental state isn’t the healthiest and thank you for never ever giving up on me even on difficult days.
Mom, thank you for absolutely everything you’ve done and continue to do for me – this life would be so boring without your snorting laugh and your stunning smile. I love you to the moon and stars and back.
Your extremely grateful daughter
